Produced by Branding Shanghai, KEEP CALM AND VENTURE ON, a captivating short film starring Hu Ge, was filmed across London, Cambridge and Edinburgh. Drawing upon iconic cultural symbols such as Sherlock Holmes, Xu Zhimo and Harry Potter, the film vividly captures the essence of British charm while embodying the core spirit embedded in British culture: “Keep calm and carry on” – a quiet resilience that embraces change with composure and confidence.
In the film, Hu Ge transforms into Mr. Holmes from the East, unravelling a mystery on a typewriter along London’s Baker Street. He then follows Xu Zhimo’s poetic starlight by the River Cam in Cambridge, before delving into the magical world within Edinburgh Castle’s ancient walls. Through these richly woven narratives, the film skilfully intertwines Britain’s historical depth, literary allure, and modern creativity.
This dialogue across time and cultures not only offers Chinese audiences a tangible glimpse of quintessential Britishness but also presents British viewers with a fresh perspective on their cultural icons through a Chinese lens. In doing so, the film fosters a profound mutual resonance between Chinese and British cultures, highlighting the shared human spirit that transcends borders.
